Welcome to Monday

Good morning and welcome to a new week and a new month. Cannot believe we are 2 months done on 2021! I just finished a book and started a new book by Andrew Murray. As you will see on my recommendations page, I highly recommend him. This is a book on prayer and one paragraph from today especially jumped out off the page. A lot of Murray’s books are 31 chapters – one chapter for each day of the month, so it makes it easy to use as a part of your daily quiet time. Anyway that paragraph:

“Only the Spirit of God can enable us to do it right. How speedily we are deceived into resting in a form of prayer, while the power is still missing! Our early training, the teaching of the church, the influence of habit, the stirring of the emotions – how easily these lead to prayer that has no spiritual power and achieves little. Who wouldn’t cry out for someone to teach him true prayer that takes hold of God’s strength and achieves much, to which the gates of heaven are really opened wide? Jesus has opened a school in which he trains those of His redeemed ones who especially desire to have power in prayer. Enter it with the petition, “Lord, this is just what we need to be taught! Oh, teach us to pray!”

This based off of Luke 11:1 – “And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray.”

Who better to ask and to be taught by than the Lord Jesus. I am so excited to start this new book, I am sure I will share more as I read it! I pray that each of you has a great week staying dead to yourself and surrendered to God. Post again later this week, or could be tomorrow, you never know!

  1. Good stuff son! And, how true. If only we, as God’s people, would learn to appropriate the power of Jesus Christ through prayer, we could really change the world as well as ourselves!

  2. Thanks Shane for your commitment to be salt and light in the earth. After reading your post, I thought about how I often forget the fact that I can do nothing that brings Glory to God apart from being controlled by the Holy Spirit. The access that we have to the Father is through the Son.

    1 Timothy 2:5-6

    5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

    6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

    Thank God he has not left us alone but has sent us the Comforter that indwells those whom he has called and saved by his grace.
