Good morning all and welcome to a new week. I have shared that I am going through a study on the book of Revelation. We just finished chapter 1 and wow what a chapter! I have always been intimidated by this book, and to be studying it like we are is so good. One of the resources I am using is this book –
And it is so good and helpful. If you want to start a study on your own, I highly recommend it! Anyway, this morning we finished chapter 1 of Revelation and I am blown away by the description of Jesus in verses 12-16 – here are the verses that I shared last time.
12 Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. And after turning I saw seven golden lampstands; 13 and in the middle of the lampstands I saw one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and wrapped around the chest with a golden sash. 14 His head and His hair were white like white wool, like snow; and His eyes were like a flame of fire. 15 His feet were like burnished bronze when it has been heated to a glow in a furnace, and His voice was like the sound of many waters. 16 In His right hand He held seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword; and His face was like the sun shining in its strength.
There is so, so much here as I mentioned in the last post. What I want to focus on for this post is 2 things that have really been sticking with me. First look at verse 12, what did John do when he heard the voice of Jesus, he turned. How many people don’t turn? Lord may we share you with others and pray that they turn to you! That is our role, we turn! Then we surrender. There is so much more here, but those 2 things I mentioned.
- When we hear and listen to Jesus, his voice will be “like the sound of many waters”. Think about any time where you have sat by a rushing river or by a waterfall. All you can hear is the water, nothing else but the water! His voice is like that, if we only listen (read His word, pray and listen). The water soothes, but is loud, and it is all you can hear! Lord ,may I only hear you and you drown out all the other noise that is around me. So we only hear Him and then..
- We only see Him when we focus on Him – verse 16, “and His face was like the sun shining it its strength”. When you see the sun, that is all you see! It drowns out everything else!
Jesus is all we see and hear when we stay surrendered! Lord help me and everyone who reads this to stay surrendered to you and only hear and only see you!
Have a great Monday (or whatever day you happen to be reading this).
