The Honor and Duty of Prayer

Good morning and I hope each of you is having a great week. Lately, it seems that all verses are pointing me to the same thing. Praying for the persecuted around the world. It is a very heavy burden, and can be daunting and overwhelming when you see news of brothers and sisters in North Korea, or India, or Nigeria (the list is long) facing severe persecution, imprisonment and even death. Open Doors –https://www.opendoorsusa.org/ states that; “Around the world, more than 340 million Christians live in places where they experience high levels of persecution, just for following Jesus. That’s 1 in 8 believers, worldwide.” Each year they publish their World Watch List of the 50 places around the world where it costs the most to follow Jesus Christ. It is believed that there is approximately 100,000 martyrs each year!

Hebrews 13:3 ” Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body.”

These people around the world are part of the same body we are! We are told to pray for them. When I pray it gives me comfort to know that the Holy Spirit that is in me is the same one that is in those brothers and sisters and He knows them just like He knows me!

1 Timothy 2:1-4 “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

God, our Savior, desires all to be saved and come to Him. We are urged that;

  1. Supplications – this is a prayer of need – the lost need Jesus!
  2. Prayers – we are told to pray and keep on praying and asking
  3. Intercessions – this word means to draw near and speak intimately, this means we should have compassion for the lost and compassion for the persecuted.
  4. Thanksgivings – we need to be more thankful for the fact we get to prayer for the lost and for the body!

This is a dear friend of mine in India. I cannot put his name or location, but this man is a true warrior for Christ. This is a group of new local pastors/missionaries that are being trained to go out and reach the unreached! Please pray for these men as the persecution that is going on in India is getting worse and more heated. The government in India is really starting to crack down on Christianity. Per Global Frontier Missions; “It is estimated that of the 7.75 billion people alive in the world today, 3.23 billion of them live in unreached people groups with little or no access to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. According to Joshua Project, there are approximately 17,446 unique people groups in the world with 7,400+ of them considered unreached (over 41% of the world’s population!).” India is one of the top – they have 2717 people groups, and 2445 (or 90%) are unreached. These men are making a true impact for the Kingdom! Please join me in praying for our brothers and sisters around world and for these brothers in India! God bless you!

Matthew 24:14; “14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
